RMH was a virtual bar we all hung out at. A "newsgroup". And we toasted each other success, flamed mistakes, trolled newbies, met people from around the world IRL, and made some amazing life long friends. Sadly, some we never even got to meet.
Oddly, Blogger won't let me make a lot of back dated posts, so I will just make a page to preserve and share some of my posts. It's been a real blast reading through them all, and remember the joy and adventures and so many old friends, quite a few no longer with us.
Join me in welcoming our newest shiny sphincter, # 142! Welcome to the family Steve Irving!

We've already swapped phone #'s and I'll be calling him shortly to make
arrangements and such.

didn't think it would do to cry on the phone. lol
He's been looking for a bike like this forever. Has a broken back so has
been wanting a hack. Sounds like my boy will be going to a good home!)

Out of intense complexities, intense simplicities emerge.
http://www.musicfromtheinsideout.com/
About 4 years ago I got a call from a local indie shop saying a camera crew
was in the area and was looking for a bike with a sidecar to carry the
camera man. I thought that sounded like a great deal of fun, so I went
and spent a whole day with these folks, riding around back roads in VT
and NY with Tom Hurwitz hanging out of my hack! We filmed one of the
violists riding his motorcycle, racing a horse along a fence, blasting
around country roads..... I had a blast!
Finally, this documentary has been released, but not near me. Somebody
go see it and let me know if Doc and I made it onto film!
(if you watch the trailer, when the bike is flying down the road, _that_
was shot from my hack!)

Words are a lens to focus one’s mind.
cutting out at speeds over 60 mph, on the way home from Vermorticut. The
carb is always the first suspect, but it just didn't feel like it, to
me. So, I borrowed a huge gas can and drained the tanks. Then I removed
the petcokc and cleaned the screen (which was spotless) and the in-line
filter. it was good, too. So I checked out the tanks. Sure enough, there
were some pretty good sized chunks of Kreem and orange paint floating
around in there. Got them out. I had already pulled the carb, so I
cleaned it up, tho it didn't look bad either.
Got everything put back together, and put my gas back in. Turned the
petcock on...nope, no leaks. So now the test would be to hop on the
Northway and see what happens when I went past 60 mph.
With Americade going on just up the road, I figured I'd head there and
see what was happening. I hopped on 87 at exit 12, and headed north.
50-60-65-75-80 <g> I just love the look on peoples faces when they get
passed by Doc!
Of course this is the fastest I've had the bike since the rebuild last
fall. Sweet response even getting on it around 70!
Damn, that boat can fly!! <G>
OK so it usually took a few minutes after I hit 70 for it to cutout. I'd
gone past 4 exits and _nothing_ happening but the sun on my face, and
the wind in my hair!
I never go into Lake George by exit 21, and if you look to your right
when ya go over the bridge, you can tell how bad traffic is. It looked
bad, and it was hot as hell. And I was having too much fun by myself!
I got off at 23 and pulled into a gas station to drink some water and
gatorade. Got to see all the other bikes I wanted to see, and it was
time to head back. the ride back to 12 went as quickly and flawlessly as
the ride up. Kind of boring to some, but the mountains are very pretty
past 19.
Soo....another project I've been working on was a windshield for the
hack. An old friend loaned me a template and I got one cut for about
$20. With a little coaching, I undertook drilling the mounting holes
myself. It came out perfect! PITA to install. It took 3 of us to curve
it around, line up the holes, and then get the chrome strip on too. but,
it's on and it looks great. When Tori got home I figured to take her out
to dinner, and check out how the windshield worked for her.
We headed south on 9 and I took it slow. Most of the purpose of this is
to get the wind off her helmet, and so she doesn't have to wear goggles.
About halfway to Clifton Park her hair had blown loose and was in her
eyes, so I pulled over and fixed it for her. Went to start the bike back
up and .....nothing. Wouldn't start.
OH yea, another thing that was on the "to do" list. A new battery. Well,
at least it didn't die in Lake George.
A brief look showed the spagetti mess of wires under my seat had wiggled
down behind the battery. A couple little black spots lead me to believe
everything shorted out. I put everything back where it should be, and I
was able to get lights. But it was still too hot to be wrenching at the
side of the road with my kid. AAA RV PLUS to the rescue!
And yea, looks like I have another project to work on, and probably a
new battery too.
Oh well, it was a great day, with some very nice riding!!

work. Do a quick walk around..hmmm, gotta figure out a way to get the air
cleaner on. A real thick washer we found will be the answer. For some reason
the carb is up higher and the cover won't go on. (FX jugs taller than FL??)
The thick washer pushes the top out far enough to clear the tank. That'll
work.
Point bike so fishtails point into garage to annoy hungover brother. That'll
work. <eg>
Fire 'em up and we're off!
I stayed to the back roads and headed back towards my end of town. I would
need some gas and air in the tires to get my first 50 miles in today. Filled
up both. My front tire was real low. I love the looks you get when you're
out riding this time of year, even if it is warm.
I pulled out onto Rt. 9 and headed north. I was looking for some slower
roads where I could fluctuate my speed, with some red lights and stop signs.
The bike was running great, and the initial start up smoking had alread
stopped. The hack tracked just as good as before, with a little additional
wobbling around 30mph, as I have the fairing on.
During a right hand turn the bike started accelerating all by itself. That
could be fun, but I guess I'll reroute the throttle cable under the crash
bar tomorrow. <g>
The weather was great, and the bike ran better, but all too soon it was time
to go home. 48 miles total. No much, but I have to change the oil in the am.
I checked everything over pretty good and I don't see a single leak, drip,
weeping, seeping, or oozing anywhere. I slid a piece of cardboard under the
bike to see if any of the drain plugs are leaking. I checked my front forks
and found I do indeed have some pitting. Very kewl. <see thread elsewhere on
pitted forks>
Good night, Doc. Tomorrow we will shoot for 100+ miles.

I awoke to dark clouds on Fri. morning. I checked the weather, then
e-mail. The forcast didn't look good, and lots of folks in the path of
Isabelle were going to wait til Sat. to head to Vermort. A quick check
in with Bill G. and the decision was made. Isabelle wasn't going to
stop us! YaaaHooo!!!
I met Bill at the designated spot and we headed out.
We had a real nice ride despite the weather. We went from rain so hard
I thought my face was bleeding, to wind that if I had put on the
windshield, poor Doc would have been going backwards! Then 5 minutes
later, bright warm sunshine. Weird. The clouds were moving so fast, it
looked like a fast forward movie. I can't wait for the opportunity to
ride those roads when we aren't in the middle of a hurricane!
We stopped for some lunch at this great little spot called The Den.
Who knew maple syrup was good in corn chowder!? Only in Vermont. I was
holding to stopping every 100 miles for gas. I had run out at 125
miles before. I should be getting better gas mileage with the rebuild,
but I didn't want to chance it. We had decided to stop in another 40
miles. Poor Bill....I saw this cute little gas station, beeped my
horn, waved and then pulled in, way before our planned 40 miles. He
traveled a ways up the road before realizing I was missing. lol It
turned out to be a good stop as the guy in the gas station turned us
on to this great vintage bike shop up the road. Had a nice visit with
the owners. They both ride hacks. They checked out my bike, showed us
some pics of theirs, gave me some tips on right hand turns, then it
was time for us to head out. Very nice stop.
As we neared our destination, we could see it was bright and sunny up
ahead. We arrived at Vermort to one of the prettiest fall days I had
ever seen!
Introductions were made, bikes were checked out, other folks arrived
and the drinking and lieing began!
I got to see Tud and Bep's Triumphs. I know very little about them,
and was very intruiged to watch them starting up and riding. Beautiful
machines!
I really liked Poser's Pan too. I got to see the *Moose killer*. Holy
hell, I had never heard that story before! WOW! Tailgunner showed up
on an incredibly space age looking Beemer.
OK OK I know most of you have seen each others bikes. I'll just admit
to being a bikeaholic and get on with it. :)
I have to say, tho it has been said by many before, if you have never
been to an IRL you MUST go! Wonderful people, bikes, wrenching,
"grapes", green jello shots (bleck...who drank all those??) a really
nice car show, an excellent dinner, I even ended up with an
Asshole(tm) in my sidehack at one point!
Dayum...what a weekend! Many thanks to Ken and Cathi!!
All too soon, it was time to get ready to go. I had missed Aitch's
arrival the night before, and had the pleasure of meeting him in the
morning. Jeez, I think he really liked those PBR's. LOL Hope to ride
with you again, Aitch!
We all packed up and headed out to breakfast. I was still full from
the great dinner, and _maybe_ a few too many jello shots, but a couple
eggs and coffee would be great. I have to admit, I was kinda breathing
a sigh of relief. I've heard the stories of the pranks pulled on
happily oblivious drunks. I was feeling pretty thankful no one had
reprogramed my prosthesis to break dance backwards. lol
Len saved me the seat at the end of the table so's I wouldn't trip
over everybody. Jeez...wasn't that nice? We all ordered and the food
came out pretty quick.
OH ~gag~ maybe I was tripping...dayum...those eggs looked
green....hmm...maybe the extra shots Cathi tried to convince me to
take home?? No...no one was laughing. OK. I had to suck it
up....wouldn't do to tell my new friends I was seeing green...maybe
just a little yolk and toast. Yup, that'll be the ticket. Just a
little..no one would have to know. OK I'll just poke the damned thing
a little....
**BAM** HOLY HELL...the damned thing blew up....ewwww, it was all over
may face. OMG I was covered with green slimy stuff!! Now _everybody_
was looking. I tried to scrub it off...I looked over at Len and he
was....smirking!!! Dayum!!! I'd been framed! I'd....I'd been
SLIMED!!!!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)
The ride home was incredible! Banker took us down some fabulous roads.
Some of the pretties views ever. There is nothing like fall riding.
Just cool enough for leather, not cool enough for gloves. I love it!
Bill, Bear and I parted from the group and headed towards home. The
weather couldn't have been nicer or the company better!
I had a few electrical problems and scared the hell outta myself when
the bike backfired once, but we figured it out and Doc held up for me.
Bill called my bike a rat bike. :P lol
Bear cut off soon after that and headed to the highway to slab it home
and Bill and I continued on to my home town where we parted on Rt. 9.
It's always nice to get home to my darlin angel, but dayum was I sorry
it was over!
I can't wait til the next one!!!!
I think I should pass on the green jello shots, tho. ;)

Eddie through a link in Les' sig line, on aol. I had what I thought
were good excuses to not go before. Wasn't back to riding yet, the
bike didn't work well enough to go, no sitter for Tori...blah blah
blah
All bullshit!!
I believe it is TL that says....*Just show up!!*
Well, dammitall...that is exactly what we will do!!
Amid questions like...
"Where are we going?"
"I'm not sure."
"What are our new friends names?"
"Eddie and Ann."
"That's it?"
"No, there will be many new friends."
"What are their names?"
"I'm not sure."
"Mom, you're weird."
"Yes, but we knew that, didn't we?"
...we loaded the purple soccer mom van and headed out!!!
We found the campground. We had arrived!! OMG My very first IRL!! It's
Eddie's Birthday!!! WooooHoooo!!!!!
We came close to turning back when we checked in. I was given a
message of a death in the family. My Aunt, who had terminal cancer,
had quietly gone home, that very morning.
It may sound cold to some, but I was raised to do good for others and
that life is for the living. Aunt Rita would not wish to be a damper
on a celebration of life.....I believe she joined us in celebrating
Eddie's birthday!
I was starting to get nervous...who the heck were all these people?
What the heck were we doing there? Have I ever top posted?
How can someone you've never met be so important to you?
Then I saw Eddie and Ann by the fire.....as tired as he must have been
by that time....did you all see the glint in his eyes as he looked
around at his *family*??
I knew why I was there, I know I will be back. I had become part of
something so big that words just fail.....
I came quite close to lying at one point, I was talking with Ann and
she inquired as to why I was in a chair, but she knew. As Moms, and
sisters of life, our hearts ached for one another.
I cried and held my little angel close that night. I thanked God for
all the friends that have stood by me, and for having the ability to
*pay it forward*.
We ride motorcycles, we know the dangers involved. I will continue to
ride, especially for those that no longer can, and we must always
stand together, or we stand the chance of falling alone.
If you haven't gone before....GO!!! Those that were there....I am _so_
proud to have met you all! You are an amazing group of people!! God
bless you all!
AND I have to say......the condition of that van is intolerable, and
dangerous!!
I, personally, live in fear of Tori and I having a vehicle break
down...what the heck would we do??
Just imagine Ann and Eddie trying to find help when that van shits the
bed!! Seriously!!! Think about it!!
And then PLEASE dig into your pockets and help out all you can!!
Every little bit helps!!
Eddie Kieger III will always ride with me!!!

round for the good folks here, if'n ya please. Drinks on me!
We've been back for a while. Sorry I didn't get to meet any of you this trip,
but we are down there often. We'll catch you next trip. My dad did find it in
his heart to take me on my annual trip to the dealership in Melbourne. They
were having some truck load sale that day, so I got to, at least, _look_ at
some bikes.
The weather was great, and between the pool and the beach and my favorite flea
market, we didn't have time for much else. But, thats the way my little girl
likes it.
Sooooo....time to start getting ready for riding season! I had "Doc" out on

<clink> Ride forever free, my friend!
I think Les will be posting my ride story there as well.
The bike ran great. Damn, if that shovelhead doesn't like the cold weather! On
Thurs. I am taking off the Super B. We're putting on a CV carb. We are also
planning on taking the clutch off the shifter, putting it over to my right foot
and moving the brake up to the handle bars. Oh, and adding self cancelling
directionals. I like to use both hand signals and directionals. With the
current setup, I am not able to do either one. I had drilled a hole in the
windsheild and installed a toggle switch for the left directional.....but,
well.......I don't like that either.
Looks like I'll be heading to Laconia in June. Riding out with some of my
locals Bros. and a friend from Louisiana may be coming up , as well. I'd very
much like to meet some of you. I've read the info on Vermort, and this looks
do-able. So let me know when/where the fun is, and I'll try to make it.
::settling back to read, now:::
Beertender, another round, please! I've had too much coffee again, and have
rambled!

upstate NY, but hey, it's got to be happy hour somewhere in the world!
It was recommend, by a friend, that I should come out of lurk mode before
spring hits, so I might have the chance to meet some of you fine folks IRL.
Well, here I am! <sfsf> My name is Traci, some call me *sybil*. I'll leave it
for you to decide. I started riding my own about 11 yeas ago, after low back
surgery. The doc told me I should avoid riding on the back of bikes from then
on. OK. So I bought my own.
First bike was a black sporty. Great bike. I won't bore you with all the
*learning how to ride* tales. I taught myself the basics and then was taken
under the wings of a great bunch of men, with more years in the saddle than
I'll ever have if I live to 100! Lost that bike in a storage fire. Insurance
bought me a, brand spankin' new, green Hugger. (from Spitzie's) :::sigh:::
The memories that bike and I made.......... Well, being a single mom, available
time is sometimes limited, but when it was time to go........we went!
As fate would have it, I wasn't meant to keep that bike either. On my way home
from work, June 21 '99, I stopped at a shop I frequent, ordered a whole bunch
of *toys* for the bike and headed home. I didn't make it too far. I was t-boned
going through an intersection. Make a long story short, my life was saved by a
Harley rider, who had just left the shop I was at. I lost my left leg above the
knee, but I am here to tell the tale!
I was not going to let some ass in a cage ( _I swear, I didn't see her!_) ruin
my life! I was determined to ride again. I formed an addiction to the Internet,
and the search was on! I finally decided that if I was going to go through all
this effort, I was not going to just *settle* for any bike to get back into the
wind. I was going to get my dream bike! I found him. I'm now the proud owner of
an '81 FLH with a sidecar. (well, I didn't really want the sidecar, but falling
over at a red light is soooo embarrassing!)
For those with aohell, I have a pic of my daughter and bike in the bike picture
gallery. My wrench modified it to a tank shift with clutch on the handle. I
don't like it, and I'm going to change it. But that's a story for another day.
I got the bike, after much waiting, in Sept. '01. With only a couple weeks back
under my belt I headed out to the SC fall bike rally, by myself. Hey, _I_ never
claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer! It was the adventure from hell!
But worth every moment! Many thanks to my wrench, who was available by phone,
for roadside repairs, and to some Internet friends, who supplied phone #'s
and/or moral support the whole way!
Whew! Barkeep, I'm parched! Another round, if you'd be so kind.
I'd like to add that while lurking, you folks have provided me with untold
assistance. From help with my super B, to leading me in the correct direction
to finding out just what the hell was the deal with my screwy VIN#. And, yup,
it's legal! LOL So, there I am. Please be gentle with the flames. I hate fire!
